COVID-19 Vaccinations & Boosters

Updated 5/11/2022

This month, the US passed 1 million deaths due to Covid-19. This virus will remain with us for the future, like the flu virus. The goal now is to prevent a Covid infection from making a person seriously ill and dying.

Healthy adults who have are up-to-date on vaccinations and boosters have little to fear from Covid variations. It is especially important for those over 65 to get their booster shots.

If you are immunocompromised, receiving cancer treatments, or have received certain organ transplants, ask your health care professional about a new drug that provides additional protection: Evusheld developed by AstraZeneca with help from government funding.

If you contract Covid, ask your health care professional about Paxlovid -- a post-infection treatment from Pfizer that seems to sharply reduce the chances a Covid illness will be come sever. It is most effective when prescribed shortly after symptoms begin. Paxlovid is only authorized for high-risk people, including those 65 and older.
